Questions and answers regarding the TRABOLD® filter

How does the TRABOLD filter work?

Its mykro filtration retains particles which cause engine or installation wear (e.g. through abrasion). Humidity and other components (e.g. sulfuric acid) adhere to the filter cartridge and are equally retained. More information and other advantages see "How?"

Is it worth installing the filter into an old vehicle

Yes, if you want to keep on driving it for a reasonable period of time. And if you change the car later, you can uninstall and keep using the filter in your new car.

Does it make sense to install the filter into a new car?

Yes, of course. Especially during the running-in period of the engine a greater number of abrasive particles in the critical size range is being released. Therefore the TRABOLD filter makes a good foundation for a long engine life from the very start.

What about my car manufacturers warranty?

The car manufacturers warranty remains unchanged after a trabold filter installation because it does not interfere with other components of your car. Other statements regarding this questions are false respectively not in accordance with warranty rights.

Can the filter damage the engine?

NO, if properly installed and maintained. It is technically impossible that the filter damages the engine. Even if the filter was completely closed, the engine remains fully lubricated because, the filter is a bypass system not interfering with the main lubricating circuit. More information see "Where?"

Can I install the filter myself?

If you have the appropriate knowledge and good tools, yes. If you are in doubt if you can do it then don't do it. It is no fun if after some time you come to a point where an engine part is to difficult to access or your tools are not meant to open a certain screw... In that case better look for an experienced mechanic with a garage and professional tools who can help if you get to a difficult point.

Where can I have my filter installed?

Basicly in every car garage and at every mechanic. If you feel that a certain garage doesn't really want to install it, look for one where they like the idea of the product. Normally, if somebody LIKES to do something, he (or she :-) does a BETTER job doing it! If you have further questions contact us.

How often does the filter cartridge has to be changed?

For a car with filter #10 every 20.000 kms. The exact intervals for all sizes you will find in your instruction.

How much are the filters and the cartridges?

All current prices excluding shipping are displayed in our shop system that you can reach via our order page. We recommend with a filter housing you order extra cartridges because they are light weight and usually do not increase shipping costs.

Which type of oil should I use when the filter is installed?

Like before use the same oil that is certified by your car manufacturer.

What about additives?

Additives are unnecessary just like most expensive sythetic oils. The carbon particles in the .mikro-meter range passing through the filter increase the lubricating capacity of TRABOLD filtered oil to a great extend (see abrasion test on our "Why?" page). This is what additives usually want to do as well. The TRABOLD filter does it "naturally" as a side-effect of fine filtration, so you can save extra money.
